In the dormant town of Castle Rock, a stranger named Leland Gaunt (Max von Sydow) opens “Needful Things”, a shop that sells all kinds of objects, even the most unobtainable, making customers' dreams come true. Gaunt always demands a favor from those who cannot pay the asking price, that is, a spite or a joke to play on some inhabitant. The situation soon degenerates, hatred spreads, collective chaos does not take long to manifest itself. Sheriff Alan Pangborn (Ed Harris) is the only one who can intervene having never asked the diabolical owner anything.
